Between the Barrels Visits Pearl Cohn High School

NASHVILLE--- State Senator Thelma Harper will join the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), Monday, November 23, 2009, in delivering the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 400 high school students at Pearl Cohn High School in Nashville. The safe driving program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, aims to reduce the chances of being teens involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will once again close a short section of Interstate 440 in Nashville this weekend as a major concrete rehabilitation project continues.  This weekend’s closure is one of several planned for the coming months.  Contract crews will close I-440 Westbound from the Interstate 24 junction to the Interstate 65 junction at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009. I-440 will reopen no later than 6:00 a.m. Monday, November 23.

NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will deliver the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 400 high school students at Southwind High School, Thursday, November 19, 2009. The Thanksgiving holiday is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Reaching teens with this safe driving message will not only help keep safety in the front of their minds as they travel, but TDOT and the THP hope teens will also remind their parents about the importance of safe driving when traveling. The goal of the Between the Barrels program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, is to save lives and help reduce the chances of a teen driver being involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) is conducting a special high-visibility enforcement campaign that runs through November 22, 2009. GHSO Director Kendell Poole will join officials for a press event on Thursday, November 19th to remind drivers that wearing a safety belt is not only the best way to protect yourself in the event of a crash, it is also the law. Drivers will also be told that speed kills and law enforcement agencies will be conducting special enforcement to prevent unnecessary deaths along State Highway 28.

Selections and prices will vary depending on location, ranging from $10.95 to $14.95 (excluding drink and gratuity). Group reservations are recommended.

TDOT to Release Details on US64 Rockslide in Polk County Clean-up

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely will visit the U.S. 64 rockslide in Polk County, Tennessee on Monday, November 16 to release new details on clean-up of the major rockslide that closed U.S. 64. TDOT will announce a revised timeframe for clean-up and will introduce the emergency repair contractor. The contractor will be on site to answer questions and provide details on the clean-up process.

I-440 will reopen no later than 6:00 a.m. Sunday, November 15.

The Governor’s Highway Safety Office Reminds Rural Drivers Click It or Ticket

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state to remind motorists, especially in rural areas, to Click It or Ticket. A special high-visibility enforcement campaign will run from November 16 through the 22nd in 19 counties and will involve 52 law enforcement agencies.
