State's First ARRA Reporting Complete Detailing Funding, Jobs Data

NASHVILLE – Tennessee has successfully met its first federal reporting requirements for funds that have flowed to or through the state under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The Recovery Act is providing states with more than $246 billion of a total $787 billion made available to create and retain jobs, invest in infrastructure and speed economic recovery. Tennessee was allocated a total of $5.6 billion; the state reported on $214.9 million spent by the state through Recovery Act grants through September 30, 2009.

DOE Approves Volunteer State Solar Initiative

NASHVILLE — U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu today confirmed funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support the Volunteer State Solar Initiative in Tennessee. Under DOE’s State Energy Program, Governor Phil Bredesen has proposed a statewide plan that prioritizes energy savings, creates or retains jobs, increases the use of renewable energy, and reduces carbon pollution.

Thousands of Tennessee Families Will Qualify For Weatherization Aid

NASHVILLE – The federal government today released the second installment of Weatherization Recovery funds for Tennessee.  More than $99 million is allocated to the Volunteer State under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  Today’s award of $39.6 million will  be spent to improve the energy efficiency of thousands of homes across the state through measures that include insulation, weather stripping and window replacement to qualified Tennesseans.  The U.S. Department of Energy is releasing the funds incrementally, based on a state’s performance.  

Bredesen Announces Recovery Act Grants for 10 Tennessee Drinking Water Systems

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke announced today that 10 small drinking water systems will receive Drinking Water Mentoring Initiative grants funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grants will provide free training materials and $15,100 in salary support to help the systems hire and train the next generation of drinking water professionals in Tennessee.

Bredesen Announces Second Round of Water and Wastewater Projects to Receive Recovery Act Funding

Nine Communities and Two Utility Districts Receive Funding, Additional Projects on Horizon

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke announced today that nine communities and two utility districts have been approved to receive low-interest loans for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements. The funding comes from a combination of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the State Revolving Fund Loan Program. Forty percent of the funding is in the form of principal forgiveness, which does not have to be repaid.

This is the second round of Recovery Act grants and loans to be approved under the State Revolving Fund program.
 

Bredesen Announces Recovery Act Funding Available for Clean Diesel Technology

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke announced today that Tennessee motor carriers can apply for grant rebates to help pay for clean diesel technology for their long-haul trucks. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is providing Tennessee with $1.73 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to supplement the state’s Idle Smart Clean Diesel Grant program.

Bredesen Announces Recovery Act Funding Available for Small Drinking Water Systems

 Funding Will Help Train the Next Generation of Drinking Water Professionals in Tennessee

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke have announced the availability of $200,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help Tennessee drinking water systems hire and train the next generation of drinking water professionals in Tennessee. The Drinking Water Mentoring Initiative will provide up to 10 one-year grants to drinking water systems serving fewer than 10,000 people in counties with an unemployment rate of more than 10 percent. 
 

TDOT Breaks Ground on Recovery Act Project in Warren County

US-70S to Be Widened Using Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds
 
NASHVILLE – Construction is now underway on a project to widen US-70S (SR-1, Nashville Hwy.) in Warren County. The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Tennessee Department of Transportation Chief Engineer Paul Degges joined Congressman Lincoln Davis and state and local officials in Warren County today to break ground on the project which will widen US-70S to four lanes between Spring Valley Road and Centertown.
 

Recovery Act Brings $56 Million to Tennessee for Criminal Justice Programs

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen today announced that grants totaling over $56 million are being awarded to cities and counties, state and local agencies and organizations that serve victims of crime in Tennessee through funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).   

“These Recovery Act grants will have a significant impact across Tennessee, especially among local law enforcement agencies that are feeling the impact of the economic downturn,” Bredesen said. “I applaud local organizations for moving quickly to apply for these grants, which improve the criminal justice system by combating violent and drug-related crime and also bring together law enforcement, service programs, prosecutors and the courts to make sure victims and justice are served.”
