NASHVILLE - Tennessee high school seniors and parents can learn about applying and paying for college by attending College Goal Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on February 22, 2009 at any of the 35 participating sites across the state. For a list of sites visit: www.TN.gov/collegegoalsunday.

NASHVILLE - When TSAC began searching for candidates to occupy the newly-named position of Senior Associate Executive Director, the goal was to find a person who had experience in multiple key areas.   The new position was created to encompass the job responsibilities of a Staff Attorney as well as to oversee the day-to-day functions in the Business Affairs Department.  

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen recently appointed La-Nikqua Thomas to serve as the 2008-09 Student Board Member for the TSAC Board of Directors. Currently a student at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, La-Nikqua officially began her term July 1.

NASHVILLE - A five-year pilot program has been established for the 2008-09 academic year that will provide financial assistance to students pursuing a degree in health care or dentistry. The goal of the program is to encourage health care providers and dentists to practice in Tennessee health resource shortage areas after becoming licensed. The amount of the award will be $12,000 or the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, books, and equipment, whichever is less. 

NASHVILLE - The Executive Committee of the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) recently approved the appointment of Dr. Richard G. Rhoda, Executive Director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC), as the Interim Executive Director for TSAC. He assumed his responsibilities on July 1.

NASHVILLE - A new grant has been approved for the 2008-09 academic year that will assist Tennessee veterans in completing their college education.  The grant, known as the Helping Heroes Grant, will be available each year to as many as 375 eligible veterans on a first come, first-served basis and will award $1,000 to students completing at least 12 semester hours each term. Additionally, students who successfully complete between six (6) and eleven (11) hours can receive $500 per semester.
