Low-Interest Loans May Be Available to Residents and Businesses
 
NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen today announced the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has granted his request for a disaster declaration for Hamilton and the contiguous counties in Tennessee and Georgia following severe storms and flooding in September.
 
“This is welcome news for Tennesseans in these counties,” said Bredesen. “The ability to access low-interest loans through SBA will help those impacted by the heavy rains and flooding in September to speed their recovery efforts.”

Bredesen Requests SBA Assistance for Flood Recovery

Low-interest Loans Could Aid Hamilton County Residents
 
NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has requested assistance from the Small Business Administration to help speed recovery in Hamilton County to help individuals and businesses as they recover from the flooding damages on September 16. The flash flooding caused more than 200 families to be displaced and at least one business to close as a result of the flooding damage.
 
“The ability to access this kind of assistance is important for the Tennesseans who experienced significant losses due to heavy rains and flooding,” said Bredesen. “If Hamilton County is designated by the Small Business Administration, the community will be able to speed up its recovery efforts.”

Local Resources Meeting Needs in Flooding Emergency

Hardin and Hamilton County Assessments Find Few Unmet Needs 

NASHVILLE – TEMA has completed a thorough examination of the damages and impact from the flooding emergencies of late September in Hardin and Hamilton Counties. In consultation with local emergency managers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the state has determined the remaining unmet needs do not reach the federal government’s threshold for a federal disaster declaration for Individual Assistance.

Governor Requests FEMA Damage Assessment for Flooding

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has asked the Tennessee and Federal Emergency Management Agencies to provide a joint preliminary damage assessment for Hamilton and Hardin Counties for federal assistance programs due to the recent flooding in those counties. Officials with TEMA and FEMA will begin that process on Monday.

Bredesen Announces Federal Disaster Assistance for Six Counties

Utility Repairs, Debris Removal and Emergency Response Efforts to be Reimbursed

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen today announced the federal government has approved his request for disaster assistance for six counties in West and Middle Tennessee awaiting assistance due to severe storms, heavy rains, flooding and flash flooding that occurred July 15-17, 2009.
 
Local governments and public utilities of Chester, Clay, Decatur, Jackson, Overton and Wayne Counties are now eligible for Public Assistance Program reimbursement from the federal government. The public assistance designation also covers emergency response and recovery costs incurred by state government.
 
“The economic cost to local budgets from disasters can be just as devastating as physical damage from a storm, but this federal assistance will help alleviate part of that financial pressure,” said Bredesen. “I appreciate President Obama’s prompt approval of the disaster declarations that will help these communities rebuild.”

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has asked President Obama to declare Chester, Clay, Decatur, Jackson, Overton and Wayne counties federal disaster areas following severe storms, heavy rains, flooding and flash flooding on July 15-17, 2009. Should this initial request for public assistance be granted, the six Tennessee counties would have access to varying levels of federal assistance.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen today announced the federal government has approved his request for disaster assistance for three west Tennessee counties due to severe storms, straight line winds, flooding, hail, and tornadoes that began June 12, 2009 and continued through the next week.

Local governments and public utilities of Fayette, Haywood and Shelby Counties are now eligible for Public Assistance Program reimbursement from the federal government. The public assistance designation also covers emergency response and recovery costs incurred by state government. Additional disaster designations for other counties maybe made at a later date after further evaluation.
