Bear Harvest on Track for New Record

MORRISTOWN --- Less than two weeks into the 2009 bear hunting season, hunters have already reported the harvest of 187 bears in East Tennessee, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).  

Beyond BOW Muzzleloader Workshop Scheduled Nov. 6-8 in Humphreys County

NASHVILLE --- A Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Muzzleloader Workshop will be sponsored by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Nov. 6-8 at a private farm in Humphreys County. 

Female hunters 18 and older will have the opportunity to learn about hunting deer over a weekend with like-minded individuals. The farm for the event incorporates a variety of wildlife management practices and totals more than 2,000 acres of prime private deer habitat. A variety of topics such as deer biology and management, ethics, and Dutch oven cooking will also be covered along with the hunts.

TWRA Will Auction Confiscated Ammunition at Maury County Courthouse

MT. PLEASANT --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will hold an auction for numerous boxes of ammunition (primarily rifle/handgun loads) in front of the Maury County Part II Courthouse in Mt. Pleasant starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.

TWRC to Vote on 2010 Sportfishing Regulations at October Meeting

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will vote on the proposed 2010 sportfishing regulations at its October meeting. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Fisheries Division made its initial proposals for 2010 at the August meeting of the TWRC which was held at Paris Landing State Park.

Free Youth Deer Hunt Contest Underway

NASHVILLE --- Youth between the ages of 10-15, who are hunter safety certified and who have never harvested a deer, are eligible to win a special hunt for the opening day of the Tennessee’s Young Sportsman Deer Hunt on Oct. 31, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced.

TWRA Soliciting Comments Concerning Proposed Live Bait Regulation Changes

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency proposed a suite of regulation changes pertaining to the sale and use of live bait in the state to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission during its Sept. 17 meeting.

TWRA Assistant Executive Director Ron Fox Retiring

NASHVILLE --- Ron Fox is retiring as Assistant Executive Director of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. His retirement is effective Sept. 30 and will end a 37-year tenure with TWRA. 

Fox moved into his current position in 1986. He was responsible for the coordination of field activities, including all wildlife activities of the four TWRA regional offices and the central office programs pertaining to wildlife management, fisheries management, law enforcement and environmental services.

TWRA Implementing Big Game Internet Check-In System

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has announced that it will be launching its first-ever big game internet check-in system this year.

TWRC Holds September Meeting in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.  --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission made an amendment to the 2009-10 waterfowl regulations among its business at its September meeting. The TWRC’s September meeting was held in Clarksville.

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is teaming with the Professional Anglers Association and Boat U.S. Foundation to sponsor a “Fish With A Pro” contest as part of the Wear It! Tennessee campaign.
