Tennessee Tourism Releases 2012 Vacation Guide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development has released the 2012 Official Tennessee Vacation Guide. The glossy magazine-style guide is free to Tennessee residents and visitors and is Tennessee’s most complete and accessible printed resource. The guide contains more than 3,000 listings of attractions located throughout the state as well as a fold-out state map.

Dolly Parton’s Dollywood, Gaylord Entertainment Partner To Bring Family Entertainment To Nashville

Nashville, Tenn.–Two of the biggest names in Tennessee tourism are teaming up to bring a major family entertainment zone to Nashville.  Gaylord Entertainment (NYSE: GET) and Dolly Parton’s Dollywood Company have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a 50/50 joint venture to develop  a 114-acre family entertainment zone adjacent to the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.  The Dollywood Company will serve as the operating partner.  Phase one of the project is a yet unnamed approximately $50 million water and snow park, the first of its kind in the United States.  A late 2012, early 2013 groundbreaking date is expected with the park opening slated for summer of 2014.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — TripAdvisor, Inc., the world’s largest travel site, announced the top 15 United States destinations on the rise for 2012, naming Nashville as No. 1 on the list, followed by Pigeon Forge at No. 4.

TDOT, Tourism & TWRA Partner to Provide Fishing Access at Smith County Welcome Center

NASHVILLE – Anglers now have new access to the Caney Fork River in Smith County thanks to a partnership between the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. A new parking area and access trail to the Caney Fork River is now open at the I-40 Welcome Center in Smith County at mile marker 267. The Welcome Center can be reached by both eastbound and westbound traffic on I-40. The new access area was developed to provide safe, legal access to the popular river for fishing.
 

New Guide Shows Off Tennessee's Plentiful, Beautiful Equine Trails

NASHVILLE – A new equine trail guide is available now from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The new statewide directory, offered free of charge, is the most comprehensive ever published for Tennessee.

Guides can be requested by visiting www.picktnproducts.org. Click on “Equine Resources” to be directed to an online request form, and the guide will be sent by mail.

The 50 page guide features easy to use regional sections combined with symbols to indicate private trails, private stables, overnight stabling, city parks, state parks, national parks & forests, state forests, bed & breakfasts with stabling, cabins, primitive camping, camping with electrical hookups, restroom and shower facilities and even wagon trails. Contact information is included for every location.

Registration Now Open for Tennessee Farmland Legacy Conference

NASHVILLE – Registration is now open for the Tennessee Farmland Legacy Conference. The conference will take place on November 11-12 at the Music Road Hotel and Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Farmers, landowners and community leaders will have the opportunity to learn about protecting and growing today’s farms for tomorrow’s families and communities.
 
“Tennessee’s farmland acres have continued to decline,” said state Agriculture Commissioner Terry J. Oliver. “The Farmland Legacy Partnership is working to bring stakeholders together to help preserve this valuable resource.”

Tennessee Inaugural Civil War Sesquicentennial Event Announced

NASHVILLE – In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, Tennessee’s Sesquicentennial Commission announces the state’s Inaugural Sesquicentennial Signature Event. Taking place November 12 and 13, the theme of this historic milestone is "The Coming of the Civil War." Governor Phil Bredesen will kick off the event at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Jackson Hall beginning at 10 a.m. CST on November 12.

Grand Opening of Brand New Tennessee Welcome Center in Unicoi County

ERWIN, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and Tennessee Department of Transportation hosted the official grand opening ceremonies of the brand new I-26 Tennessee Welcome Center, today, Monday, May 14 at 1 p.m. EDT. The center is located at I-26 in Unicoi County, near Erwin. The grand opening event was part of Tennessee’s National Tourism and Travel Week festivities.
