NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will deliver the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 930 high school students at Macon County High School in Macon County, Friday, August 28, 2009. The safe driving program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, aims to reduce the chances of being involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) received the 2009 Commercial Vehicle Safety Award from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for significant contributions to improving highway safety involving commercial vehicles and commercial vehicle drivers. The award was presented Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at the AAMVA awards luncheon in San Diego, Calif.

THP Memphis District Announces Aggressive School Zone Enforcement

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will announce activities to aggressively enforce school zones during a news conference at the Covington Municipal Airport, Thursday, August 27, 2009. August 24-28, the THP’s Memphis District will utilize every available Trooper to work school zones, follow school buses on their routes and ride on buses. The THP helicopter will also be utilized for air patrol as part of the special school zone enforcement initiative.

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled to Stop Impaired Driving

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol is teaming up with State Troopers from Alabama and several local agencies from both states for a “Hand Across the Border” initiative focusing on stopping impaired driving. On Friday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m., officials from several law enforcement agencies will join together to officially launch the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Drunk Driving. NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Southern Hills Family Medicine of Brentwood invites the public to attend a child passenger safety seat checkpoint on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Brentwood Library on Concord Road. State Troopers, who are certified restraint device technicians, will provide one-on-one instruction on how to properly restrain a child, as well as ensure car seats and booster seats are properly installed in motorists’ vehicles.
