24-hour, Multi-Agency Enforcement Campaign Uncovers Violations

NASHVILLE--- The Tennessee Highway Patrol, along with numerous federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, examined more than 1,100 trucks during Operation United S.T.O.P. (Strategic Transportation Observation & Prevention) on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. With a focus on the safe operation and transportation of commodities by commercial vehicles, the intensive 24-hour campaign resulted in 59 drivers and 67trucks being placed out-of-service.

THP Participates in National School Bus Safety Week

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) are participating in National School Bus Safety Week, October 19 – 23, 2009. This year’s theme, “Avoid Harm, Obey the Stop Arm” reminds all drivers that they are required by law to stop when a school bus’s red-flashing lights are activated. Each day, school buses transport more than 26 million schoolchildren in 480,000 school buses, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). There are approximately 8,900 schools buses in operation in the State of Tennessee.

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) served Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge David Brown with a “minimum due process” letter for termination on Thursday, October 15, 2009, following an internal investigation into misuse of funds within the department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) East Tennessee Region in Morristown.
