Law enforcement will work overtime to crack down on drunk drivers
 
Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation Governor’s Highway Safety Office, Tennessee Titans and Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security are once again teaming up to remind Tennessee football fans that real Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk this Super Bowl weekend. 
 
“If your Super Bowl game plan includes celebrating with alcohol make sure you have a sober, designated driver,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “Law enforcement officials will be working overtime to ensure that Tennessee’s roads are safe, so if you drink and drive this weekend, chances are you’ll be caught.”
 

Department of Safety & Homeland Security Issues over 12,500 Photo IDs for Voting Purposes since July 1

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced that 12,571 photo IDs had been issued for voting purposes from July 1 through January 30, 2011. The vast majority (11,896) of those issued were non-photo driver licenses converted into photo driver licenses, while 675 were original photo identification cards.

 

Tennessee Highway Patrol Teams Up with CargoNet

NASHVILLE –- The Tennessee Highway Patrol today announced a new strategic alliance with CargoNet®, a leading source of information on cargo thefts, to combat stolen goods in transit in Tennessee and surrounding states. State troopers will use the CargoNet system to disrupt cargo crime networks, increase recovery rates, and apprehend criminals associated with cargo thefts. 
 

Haslam Extends Recently Suspended Truck Rules to Help Farmers

NASHVILLE – Gov. Bill Haslam recently extended an executive order to allow haulers of hay to carry larger loads in their trucks as long as they observe safety requirements. The order is in response to drought and extreme weathers conditions in Texas and across the Southeast, which has left some farmers without access to hay for livestock.

“Last year was a tough year for farmers across the Southeast, and we want to be responsive to their needs,” Haslam said. “This order will continue to ensure that much needed hay can be shipped safely and without delay through Tennessee and along our major interstate corridors.”

State Officials Announce Record Decline in Traffic Fatalities

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security officials today announced preliminary figures indicating the state has recorded the fewest number of traffic fatalities in 48 years. In 2011, there were 947 traffic-related deaths on Tennessee roadways, representing the lowest figure since 1963 when 941 people were killed as a result of a crash.

Department of Safety & Homeland Security Announces Decline in Traffic Fatalities Over New Year's Holiday Period

NASHVILLE --- Preliminary reports indicate two people were killed during the New Year’s holiday weekend, compared with six fatalities during last year’s holiday period. Statistics for the 2011-2012 New Year’s holiday reflect the time period from 6 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2011, to midnight Monday, January 2, 2012.
 

Haslam Unveils Comprehensive Public Safety Strategy

Multi-year action plan resulting from collaboration of 11 state agencies

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today announced a comprehensive, multi-year action plan designed to improve public safety statewide. 

The Governor’s Public Safety Subcabinet Working Group, which includes commissioners and representatives from 11 state agencies, submitted the plan after months of meetings with more than 300 public safety professionals and stakeholders across the state.

Department of Safety & Homeland Security Issues Nearly 9,500 Photo IDs for Voting Purposes

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced that 9,492 photo IDs had been issued for voting purposes from July 1 through December 31, 2011. The vast majority (8,989) of those issued were non-photo driver licenses converted into photo driver licenses, while 503 were original photo identification cards.
 

Three State Driver Service Centers to Provide Reinstatement Only Services starting January 3

NASHVILLE --- The Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced that three state driver service centers located in Greene, Knox, and Obion Counties will provide reinstatement services only starting on January 3, 2012 following the New Year’s Day holiday.
