MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment, arrest and subsequent guilty plea of Victoria A. Padgett to one count of sales tax evasion.
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue arrested Gonzalo Alverez Moralez, age 53, president of Ornelas, Inc., dba La Carreta Mexican Restaurant in Gray, Tenn., after the Washington County Grand Jury returned an 18-count indictment relating to evasion of sales tax due the State of Tennessee. Bond was set at $54,000.
NASHVILLE -The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to the guilty plea of Ahmad T. Wahidi on Nov. 13, 2008. Wahidi, 37, owner and manager of J. T. Liquors, L.P., pled guilty to five counts sales tax evasion and theft, and was ordered to pay $31,364.22 in restitution to the state for unpaid sales tax collected from Jan. 2002 through Aug. 2005. Wahidi was placed on two years probation for the tax evasion charges and one year probation for the theft charge.
