New Career Center for Union City Dedicated

 

SPECIAL GUESTS INVITED TO RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

Nashville―Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley and special guests attended a ribbon cutting ceremony held Friday, October 6, at the new Tennessee Career Center at Union City at 126 East Main, Suite C. The new center relocated from their previous location at 1418 Stad Avenue in late August. The new location features a state-of-the-art resource area with computers and a resource library. There is also a classroom available for training activities and for employers to utilize. The center offers employers free access to the center for interviewing and screening potential job applicants.

Governor Bredesen Proclaims Employ Older Worker Week

 

ENNESSEE CAREER CENTERS TO HOLD OPEN HOUSES SEPTEMBER 29

NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed September 24-30 “Employ Older Workers Week.” Tennessee Career Centers across the state will host an older workers open house on Friday, September 29, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Workers age 40 and beyond will get a tour of the Tennessee Career Centers and learn about the services offered.

AUGUST COUNTY UNEMPLOYMENT RATES
RATES SHOW DECREASE IN 74 COUNTIES AND INCREASE IN 8 COUNTIES

NASHVILLE – Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2006 was 5.7 percent, down from the July rate of 5.9 percent. County unemployment rates for August 2006, released today, show that 74 county rates decreased, eight county rates increased, and 13 remained the same.

NASHVILLE - Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the month of August is 5.7 percent, down from the seasonally adjusted July rate of 5.9 percent, Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development James Neeley announced today. The national unemployment rate for August is 4.7 percent, down from the July rate of 4.8.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $24,838 to Dynametal Technologies, Inc. in Brownsville for incumbent worker training. More than $3 million in Incumbent Worker Training Grants was awarded in fiscal year 2005-06 benefiting almost 15,000 Tennessee workers who retained their jobs and received skill upgrades.
