Wilson County Nursing Home Cited For Violations

NASHVILLE  – Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, has suspended new admissions of residents to the Quality Care Health Center effective March 19, 2009, and imposed a one-time state civil monetary penalty of $1,500. The state also has recommended that the federal civil penalty be imposed at $3,050 a day until the violations are corrected. A special monitor has been appointed to review the facility’s operations.

TN Board of Medical Examiners Suspends License of Sevierville Physician

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health announces that the Board of Medical Examiners has summarily suspended the license of Rodney G. Carter, MD, of Sevierville. The suspension of Carter’s license became effective March 20, 2009. As a result of the suspension, Carter is immediately prohibited from practicing medicine in the state.

Tennesseans Warned to Avoid Oysters Harvested from Mississippi Area 2C

Mississippi Oysters Linked to Illness of 11 TN Restaurant Patrons

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health warns Tennesseans to avoid oysters harvested Feb. 24 through March 17, 2009 from Mississippi Growing Area 2C. Consumers and retailers concerned about oysters purchased during this period should contact the place of purchase to determine the origin of the shellfish. TDOH and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department officials have linked two outbreaks of norovirus infection to oysters harvested from this area in 2009.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health announces that the suspension of admissions at Hillcrest West nursing home has been lifted. The facility is a 194-bed licensed nursing home located at 6801 Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville.

State Breast and Cervical Screening Program Receives Komen Funding

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Breast and Cervical Screening Program has received a $35,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation’s Chattanooga affiliate. The funding will be used to provide breast screening services for eligible women in the 10 counties of the Department of Health’s Southeast region.
