Department of Health Promotes HIV/AIDS Prevention

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health urges Tennesseans to observe the 21st annual World AIDS Day on December 1, 2008 by making sure they know their HIV status. This year’s slogan is “Lead-Empower-Deliver,” stressing the message that everyone can take part in leading the fight against this disease, become empowered with information and work to see that the promise of stopping the pandemic is delivered.
 

Admissions To Etowah Health Care Center Suspended

                                        McMinn County Nursing Home Cited for Violations

NASHVILLE  – Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, has suspended new admissions of residents to the Etowah Health Care Center effective November 21, 2008, and imposed a one-time state civil monetary penalty of $1,500. The state also has recommended that the federal civil penalty be imposed at $3,550 a day until the violations are corrected. A special monitor has been appointed to review the facility’s operations.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health announces that the Board of Medical Examiners has summarily suspended the license of Samuel M. Ashby, MD, of Fayetteville. As a result of the suspension, Ashby is immediately prohibited from practicing medicine in the state.

Wharton Nursing Home Admissions Suspension Lifted

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Health announces that the suspension of admissions at Wharton Nursing Home has been lifted. The facility is a 62-bed licensed nursing home located at 55 West Lake Road in Pleasant Hill. The Department confirmed the facility has returned to substantial compliance for state licensing purposes, and the deficient practices and conditions have been corrected as stated in the facility’s plan of correction, which was approved by federal and state authorities.

The facility is a 158-bed licensed nursing home located at 1641 Highway 19E Bypass. The Department confirmed the facility has returned to substantial compliance for state licensing purposes, and the deficient practices and conditions have been corrected as stated in the facility’s plan of correction, which was approved by federal and state authorities.
