Oldest State Parks Running Series in Nation to Kick Off at Rock Island Oct. 10

NASHVILLE – The 2009-2010 Tennessee State Parks Running Tour will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Rock Island State Park outside McMinnville. The Rock Island 5K is the first of twenty foot races scheduled at different state parks from October through March.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s mobile household hazardous waste collection service will be in Cheatham, Dyer, Lawrence and Maury counties on Saturday, Oct. 17. 

2009 Pow Wow and Fall Festival at Long Hunter State Park

NASHVILLE – Long Hunter State Park will host the 28th Annual Pow Wow and Fall Festival Oct. 16-18, featuring Native American artists, musicians, dancers, food and storytellers. Sponsored by the Native American Indian Association of Tennessee, this time-honored gathering draws thousands of people from across the country and offers a unique opportunity to explore a variety of tribal customs and cultural experiences.

NASHVILLE - The State Review Board will meet on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, to examine Tennessee's seven proposed nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.

Step Back in Time at Henry Horton State Park Sept. 18-19

CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. – Henry Horton State Park will host its annual Step Back in Time festival September 18 – 19, featuring a pre-1840s encampment, horse-mounted shooters, arts and crafts, antique tractors and cars, music, food and much more. Activities will begin at 9 a.m. each day and run until approximately 7:30 p.m. The festival is free and open to the public.

Bredesen Announces Waste Tire Cleanup Grant for Hickman County

Grant Will Fund Tire Removal on Highway 230 in Lyles
NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke today announced a Waste Tire Cleanup Grant of $115,000 for Hickman County. This grant will fund the cleanup of tires illegally dumped along Highway 230 in Lyles.
