NASHVILLE – The Department of Environment and Conservation is inviting Tennesseans to submit nominations for the Governor’s 2012 Environmental Stewardship Awards. The awards recognize Tennesseans who go above and beyond to protect the state’s diverse environment.

Haslam Announces $189,550 in Used Motor Oil Collection Grants

Grants will help encourage proper collection of Used Motor Oil across Tennessee
 
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau today announced $189,550 in collection grants to establish, upgrade and expand used motor oil collection centers in 15 communities across Tennessee.

Division of Archaeology’s 2012 Current Research Meeting Slated for January 27-28 in Nashville

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Division of Archaeology and Middle Tennessee State University will host the 24th Current Research in Tennessee Archaeology meeting Jan. 27-28 in the Ed Jones Auditorium at the Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville.  The meeting is free and open to the public. 

Parks and Recreation Grants Available to Local Communities

Environment and Conservation Will Host Grant Workshops Feb. 13
 
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is now accepting applications for Local Parks and Recreation Fund grants to help communities create and expand parks and recreation services.  The department is contacting local communities about the grant availability, and will host a series of workshops throughout the state on Monday, Feb. 13 to help communities understand the application process.  The application deadline is June 29, 2012.

NASHVILLE – The winter pilgrimage of the majestic American Bald Eagle annually brings these fantastic creatures back to northwest Tennessee from their summer homes in the upper Great Lakes and Canada. With wingspans of six to eight feet and weights up to 16 pounds, the American Bald Eagle has been returning to the open water, marshes and cypress-laden sloughs of Reelfoot Lake for generations.

Nashville – Tennessee Deputy Governor Claude Ramsey, Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau and General Services Commissioner Steven G. Cates today announced a series of energy efficiency projects in state government, as well as the new Clean Tennessee Energy Grant Program.  The state projects, as well projects for other public and private entities that will be funded through the grant program, are designed to both increase cost savings and decrease emissions.
