Two Communities Join State’s Retire Tennessee Program

NASHVILLE - Matt Kisber, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, announced today that two Tennessee counties have met the criteria to join the state’s retiree recruitment program, Retire Tennessee. Lincoln and Jefferson Counties bring the state’s total number of active Retire Tennessee Programs to nine.

Volkswagen Group of America Announces It Will Produce Cars in Chattanooga; Decision Marks Company’s Ongoing Commitment to North American Market

HERNDON, Va. — Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. announced today that it will build a U.S. automotive production facility in Chattanooga, Tenn., where it will produce a car designed specifically for the North American consumer and invest $1 billion in the economy. Whirlpool Corporation Adds 500 New Jobs to Cleveland, Tenn. Manufacturing Facility

NASHVILLE - Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today heralded the announcement by Whirlpool Corporation that 500 new jobs will be created at the company’s Cleveland, Tenn. manufacturing facility. As Bradley County’s largest employer, Whirlpool expects its Cleveland workforce - including manufacturing, engineering and call center employees - to grow to 1,650 by 2009.

BERO Offers Small Business Resource Workshop

PULASKI – Owners of small and rural businesses and minority and women business owners are invited to learn about available resources over lunch at a workshop presented by the Business Enterprise Resource Office, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Small Business Administration and Martin Methodist College on October 26 in Pulaski. Lunch will be followed by a workshop on the Community Express Loan Program, with loans from $5,000 to $25,000.

2007 Governors Conference to Recognize Tennessee Companies Efforts at Global Trade

 

NASHVILLE - Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Matt Kisber today announced the creation of a new business award designed to spotlight the achievements of Tennessee companies engaged in global trade. The Governor’s Award for Trade Excellence will be handed out to small, medium and large-sized companies at the annual Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development, September 12-13 at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, TN.

NASHVILLE - Gov. Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today awarded Hamilton County a $15,000 Three-Star Innovation Grant to fund marketing initiatives for ChooseChattanooga, a new campaign to recruit young professionals, baby boomers and retirees to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County area.

TN General Assembly Creates Regional Megasite Authorities

 

NASHVILLE - Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today praised bill sponsors Senator Lowe Finney (d-Jackson) and Representative Craig Fitzhugh (d-Ripley) along with members of the Tennessee General Assembly for passage of the Tennessee Regional Megasite Authority Act of 2007. The act authorizes Tennessee cities and counties to work together to develop regional industrial megasites designed to attract new jobs and capital investment.
