TDOT Maintenance Personnel Tops in Skills and Safety Events
Knoxville, TN – Some of the most skilled workers in the southeast are maintaining Tennessee roadways. TDOT’s field maintenance personnel took home top prize in the 2008 Southeast Regional Equipment Operators “Roadeo” Thursday, October 2. Tennessee’s maintenance personnel from across the state bested competitors from Arkansas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina in six skill and safety events that showcase their ability to maneuver heavy equipment through a series of obstacles and precision challenges. Competition events included backhoe, motor grader, tractor mower, equipment hauler, and single and tandem axle dump trucks.
TDOT to Provide $3.6 Million for Expanded Transit Services
Nashville, TN – As part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s effort to increase mobility throughout the state, TDOT is announcing an initiative for the development of an Intercity Bus Demonstration Program for the State of Tennessee. Qualified private or public agencies will be able to utilize more than $3.6 million dollars from a statewide competitive grant provided by the Federal Transit Agency.
Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely joined state and local officials in Bedford County today to mark the early completion of a new overpass for the Walking Horse and Eastern Railroad. The bridge will cross over the future Shelbyville Bypass and will eliminate a grade level railroad crossing once the new roadway is constructed.

Wartburg, Tenn. -The Department of Correction is currently investigating the discovery of weapons smuggled into the Morgan County Correctional Complex. Two guns were found inside a package delivered to the institution this morning. “This is a serious threat to the safety and security of both staff and inmates at the institution,” said Commissioner George M. Little. “I have directed our internal affairs division to launch an aggressive investigation into this threat and pursue vigorous action against those involved.”
