Tennessee's Rural Opportunity Fund Wins International Award

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Rural Opportunity Fund, a first of its kind $10 million revolving loan fund providing growth capital to businesses in rural Tennessee, has recently been honored for its economic development achievement. The statewide initiative has won the Business Retention and Expansion International's (BREI) 2009 Multi-Community Program Award for populations over 100,000.  

BERO To Host Tennessee Business Matchmaking 2009 Webinar Series

 Webinar Series Scheduled For Every Third Tuesday, May through December

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Business Enterprise Resource Office (BERO), a division of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, will host the Tennessee Business Matchmaking Webinar Series that will provide Tennessee’s small, minority-, and women-owned businesses a cost-effective way to learn about existing procurement opportunities with public and private entities. The first session on How to Do Business with the State of Tennessee is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19. 

Bredesen Proposes Volunteer Solar Initiative

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen today proposed the Volunteer State Solar Initiative, a comprehensive solar-energy and economic-development program that will use up to $62.5 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to advance job creation, education, research, and renewable-power production in Tennessee.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Matt Kisber today applauded Volkswagen Group of America’s decision to award a $147 million dollar contract to M-Tek, Incorporated of Manchester, Tennessee. The company will provide interior door panels for a new Volkswagen midsize sedan scheduled to begin production in early 2011.

The facility will add 38 new jobs to the area and represents an investment of $1.7 million. SBBI, an innovative building components manufacturer, specializes in trusses, floor systems, pre-engineered wall and floor panelization and other components.

German-based Polysilicon Manufacturer Becomes Tennessee’s 3rd $1 Billion Project in Eight Months

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen today joined Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber, Dr. Rudolph Staudigl, president and CEO of Wacker Chemie AG of Munich, Germany and Dr. Ingomar Kovar, president of Wacker Chemical Corporation, Adrian, MI. in announcing the company’s plans to build a $1 billion dollar facility for the manufacture of hyperpure polycrystalline silicon in Bradley County, Tenn. Polycrystalline silicon is a primary component used in the manufacture of solar panels and semiconductors and the project is expected to create more than 500 new jobs for the region.

 
“This announcement further enhances Tennessee’s growing reputation as an innovation center in the development and manufacture of clean energy technologies,” said Governor Bredesen. “I appreciate Wacker Chemie’s investment in Tennessee and its recognition of the productivity of Tennessee workers, and I’m very pleased the company believes Tennessee is the best place to enhance its position in a growing economic sector.”
