Escapee Captured Additional Arrests

ATHENS, Tenn. - An inmate who escaped from the Northeast Correctional Complex Annex in Carter County was apprehended several hours after his escape.  Randy Hicks escaped through a window at the annex on April 4, 2008 sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Escaped Inmate Wanted

 

CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. - The Department of Correction is seeking the public’s help in locating an inmate who escaped from the Carter County Annex this morning.  Inmate Randy Hicks was reported missing at 7:00 a.m. when staff noticed he was not at his scheduled worksite.

 

TDOC Names New Warden at MLCC

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Veteran TDOC employee Lolie Jones has been named Warden of the Mark H. Luttrell Correctional Center in Memphis.  In making the appointment, Commissioner George M. Little said, “Warden Jones has proven his leadership capabilities during his tenure with the department.  His extensive experience, knowledge of the department and professionalism qualifies him for this challenging position.”

Riverbend Inmates Give to Tornado Victim

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than 100 inmates housed at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution are lending support to the tiniest victim of the February tornadoes.  The inmates have donated $244.68 to a trust fund for 11-month-old Kyson Stowell.  The infant survived the storm that tore through the town of Castilian Springs.  His mother was killed when their home was destroyed.

Project: New Beginning Graduation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Graduation day comes this month for two dozen inmates at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution.  Twenty-four men enrolled in Project New Beginning will graduate from the program on March 15, 2008.

Youth Offender College Courses

TIPTONVILLE, Tenn. - It’s an opportunity they never thought they would have, but one that could prevent them from getting into trouble again.  Several inmates at the Northwest Correctional Complex have become college students.  A partnership between the Department of Correction and the University of Tennessee at  Martin allows several youthful offenders to enroll in English and history college courses this semester.

Escapee Captured

JACKSON, Tenn. - A man wanted by the Department of Correction is now in custody.  An arrest warrant had been issued for Tracy Bernard Mann.  Mann is a TDOC inmate who was serving time for theft of property.  He was sent to Texas on a detainer and was inadvertently released by that state.

TDOC Helps Storm Victims

 

CLIFTON, Tenn. - Several Tennessee counties devastated by this week’s storms are receiving help from the Department of Correction.  The Wayne County Boot Camp has sent dozens of inmates to assist with the cleanup in Wayne and Hardin counties.  Inmates are working with local officials to remove downed trees and debris from roads and public areas.

 

Prison Expansion Project Moves Forward

WARTBURG, Tenn. - Governor Phil Bredesen’s recommended state budget will allow the Morgan County prison expansion project to move forward.  The expansion is expected to save the state nearly $4 million dollars each year and create 255 new jobs.  In his State of the State address on Monday, Governor Bredesen said, “One of the ways to prevent crime is to make sure we have the space to keep those who commit it behind bars.”  Once complete, the new facility will house 2,441 inmates, making it the second largest prison in the state system.
