Department of Commerce and Insurance Announces Financial Literacy Essay Contest for Tennessee High School Seniors

NASHVILLE - The Securities Division for the State of Tennessee, Department of Commerce and Insurance, is sponsoring an essay contest for high school seniors in Tennessee.Students are asked to write an essay on the subject of “Your Financial Future -- Your Decisions.” Students will convey how they will plan for their financial future and explain the justification of their choices.

Commissioner Leslie Newman Appoints James H. “Jim” Pillow as Assistant Commissioner for Fire Prevention

NASHVILLE - Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Leslie Newman is pleased to announce the appointment of James H. "Jim" Pillow as the Assistant Commissioner for the Fire Prevention Division. Pillow recently spent four years as the Clarksville City Building and Codes Director. He previously spent 10 years with the city of Milan as a Building Official/City Planner.

Nashville, TN — The effects of storm systems active in the Gulf Coast are now being felt by
Tennesseans at the gas pump. Prices for fuel have risen dramatically and the State is offering
consumers information on how they can report possible price-gouging.
