Scoping Meeting for the West Tennessee Solar Farm Environmental Assessment in Haywood County, Tennessee

The State of Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announce their intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed West Tennessee Solar Farm. In keeping with its responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), DOE has determined this proposed project requires the preparation of an EA.   The West Tennessee Solar Farm, a five-megawatt multi-acre power solar array would generate renewable energy and serve as a demonstration site for educational purposes. The Solar Farm would be located in Haywood County, Tennessee. Educational activities would occur at a welcome center that would be located directly on Interstate 40, adjacent to the Solar Farm.
 
The State of Tennessee will host a public scoping meeting to solicit comments on the proposed project. All members of the public are invited to attend the scoping meeting where representatives from the State and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will discuss the goals for the EA and how the project may impact the surrounding community.

Led by the Department of Tourist Development, Discover Tennessee Trails and Byways is a statewide initiative encompassing all 95 counties along 15 regional trails, and featuring Tennessee’s five National Scenic Byways. The Old Tennessee Trail will highlight more than 70 significant tourism sites, promoting Davidson, Williamson and Maury Counties.

The announcement marks the seventh time in the past decade Tennessee has been listed among the top ten states for business climate. The state has been ranked among the top five states in five of the past seven years. The closely watched annual rankings appear in the November 2009 issue.

Tennessee Department of Education Releases 2009 Report Card

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education today released the annual comprehensive report card on pre-K – 12 education, including state, district and school-level information on achievement, demographics, and discipline. This year’s report card demonstrates fundamental changes to the calculations of Value Added and Achievement scores. The method of calculating scores and the scale used to determine letter grades have been revised to allow for a transition to the new standards and assessments required by the Tennessee Diploma Project.

Motorists Detoured to Alternate Routes for Several Months
 
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation and Tennessee Highway Patrol are working together to keep motorists informed about the closure of Interstate 40 near the North Carolina state line. In Tennessee, I-40 is closed in both directions at mile marker 451 (Waterville) due to a massive rock slide that buried the interstate at mile marker 2.6 in North Carolina just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has made an emergency declaration and is working aggressively to remove the rock from the roadway however it will be several months before the interstate is reopened. As a result, motorists are being detoured to I-81 and I-26.
 

Waiting List Established for State AIDS Drug Assistance Program

Program Funding Reaches Capacity

NASHVILLE – The state AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) has reached enrollment capacity and must establish a waiting list for services effective immediately, the Tennessee Department of Health announced today. As of June 2009, program enrollment had reached 3,367 with funding at $25.3 million. Last year at the same time, enrollment totaled 2,706.
